Due to sin’s effects, we cannot be what we wish we could be. We wish we could be successful. We wish we could handle our problems. We wish we could be happy, healthy, and whole.
But, because of sin, we fall short of attaining everything we wish we could be, do, and have. Such is the nature of sin for the literal meaning of the word is “to miss the mark.”
Because of our sin, we’re all “off target.” No one is free of sin. Even the Apostle Paul confessed he missed the mark sometimes (Romans 7:15-20).
And yet, the apostle expressed gratitude for the grace of God in Christ so that he could be forgiven of his sins and get his life on target. He wrote,
“And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus,” (1 Timothy 1:12-14).
As hard as we try, we can’t hit the mark on our own. It takes the grace of our Lord along with faith and love in Christ to guide us toward the bull’s eye. Seeking his mercy, we’re on target toward the way to wellness over the plague of sin.
Heavenly Father, bring healing to my life by helping me to forgive as I’ve been forgiven.
Good News to you!
